Advising holds are set on student records to enforce required advising. Academic advisors are required to remove the advising hold after meeting with the student. Students will not be able to enter course requests on-line until this hold has been removed.
- First Year Advising holds are set in September prior to drop/add, in late-October prior to spring preregistration and in April prior to fall preregistration - these holds are removed by the assigned first year advisor after meeting with the student.
- Sophomore Advising holds are set in late-October prior to spring preregistration - these holds are removed by the assigned or selected sophomore advisor after meeting with the student.
- Major declaration holds are set in April for rising juniors - these holds are removed by the Registrar's Office on receipt of a signed Major Declaration form.
- Major Advising holds are set in April for rising senior majors - these holds are removed by the department academic advisor after meeting with the student.
In PeopleSoft/FACSIS, navigate Self Service > Advisement > Remove Advising Holds.

To retrieve the student’s record, enter the student’s ID or search on the student’s name. For a name search:
- Enter the student’s Last Name and at least a first initial of the first name, then click
.
- If a search list displays multiple matches, use the student Grad Year and Status displayed in the right column to help select the appropriate student.
- Click anywhere in the row to select the student wanted.

A student may have multiple holds; if so the blue Service Indicator Data bar will indicate . Click the blue right or left arrow to move between holds to find the hold appropriate for your advising session.

Major Declaration
this one is removed by the Registrar's Office.
Major Advisors
look for the hold for your academic department.
To remove the hold:
Click the in the upper right corner of the Service Indicator Data.

Click OK to remove the hold.
If you try to remove a hold for which you are not authorized, you will receive an error message to that effect. Click okay and look again at the Service Indicator Cd and Service Indicator Reason Cd. If you are in the wrong hold, click the arrows on the Service Indicator Data bar to find the correct hold. If you should be able to remove a hold, but receive this error message, contact the Registrar's Office or send e-mail to facsis@williams.edu.
Click (at the bottom of the page). If you have multiple advisees for whom to remove holds, click . On the Search page, click Clear, then enter the ID or name for the next student.
If you forget to save and try to leave this page, you will see

Click OK and then SAVE.
