POEC 401(F) Politics of the International Economy

This course examines major issues in the politics of the international economy. It first considers various theoretical perspectives on international political economy-e.g., liberal, realist, neo-Marxist, public choice. With these in mind, it then analyzes important issue-areas including: trade; capital movements; the organization of production; and the role of international organizations in addressing global issues. Each area will feature at least one extended case study. Requirements: several short papers and a final exam. In addition, class attendance and participation are essential. Prerequisites: a course in international economics: Economics 358 or 360 or Economics 215 or the equivalent; satisfaction of the international/comparative Political Science course requirement (see list of major requirements above) prior to or concurrently with this course. Required in the major and open only to Political Economy majors.
