ENGL 331(S) Romantic Poetry
A study of selected poets and poetry from the Romantic Period (roughly 1780-1830). We will read both major and minor poets, working toward both coverage of the period and some in-depth study of individual poets, as well as an increased understanding of how poetry works in general. Writers likely to be read include Wordsworth, Coleridge, Smith, Robinson, Byron, Shelley, Hemans, Keats and Tighe. Requirements: 15-20 pages of writing. Prerequisite: a 100-level English course, except 150 (formerly 103). Enrollment limited to 25. (1800-1900)
