BIOL 306 Advanced Molecular Genetics (Not offered 1999-2000; to be offered 2000-2001)
This course explores the structure and function of prokaryotic and eukaryotic genes using an integrated genetic and molecular approach. Topics covered include DNA replication, chromatin structure, transposable genetic elements. transcription, and RNA processing. Laboratory will provide experience with methods used to analyze DNA and RNA, such as Southern and Northern hybridization, polymerase chain reaction, and DNA sequencing. Lectures and laboratory: six hours a week. Evaluation will be based on periodic exams, lab reports, and a class presentation. Prerequisite: Biology 202.
