ARTS 257(F) Photography

Photography is a course in the basics of photographic theory, technique and composition within a fine art context. Students learn to operate a 35mm camera, to process black and white film, and print black and white photographs. In addition to the basics of silver-based photography, students will receive an introduction to digital imaging. This course is based on a series of photographic assignments which demand the application of skills learned in class toward the articulation of an individual point of view. A substantial amount of time outside of class is necessary to complete these assignments. The work is evaluated individually and in class critiques throughout the term. Evaluation will be based on the level of formal and technical competence of the portfolio as well as the conceptual strength of the work. Lab fee. Prerequisite: ArtS 100 or ArtS 103. Enrollment limited to 15.
