ANSO 233(F) Globalization and Everyday Life*+

In a world where Japanese cars are built in the U.S. using Korean parts, where the most popular dish in English restaurants is curry, and where economic crises in Thailand affect stocks in New York, it is no wonder that "globalization" is a new buzzword. This course examines the phenomenon of globalization from a range of theoretical perspectives and assesses how the spread of the global market, and the social practices associated with it, has changed cultures on the ground level throughout the world. Requirements: class presentation and major research paper. Open to first-year students.
