PSYC 341(F) Stereotypes, Prejudice, and Discrimination*

An examination of stereotypes and prejudice from a variety of social psychological perspectives. The course examines the impact that stereotypes and prejudice have on people's perceptions of and behaviors toward particular groups and group members and explores a variety of factors that tend to exacerbate or weaken this impact. The course also considers some of the sources of stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination and some of the processes through which stereotypes are either maintained or revised in the face of stereotype-inconsistent information. Requirements: a final exam, a series of brief papers, and a written and oral report of research project. Prerequisite: Psychology 201 and 242 or permission of instructor. Empirical Project
