PSCI 216(F) Urban and Ethnic Politics and Policies (Offered 1997-98 only)*
In American cities, citizens must individually and collectively take account of the economic and development needs of business. Minority groups, overlooked for reasons of low political participation and disenfranchisement, often exert little influence on, and derive few benefits from, urban economic development strategies. Accordingly, this course examines how minorities can mobilize their political strength in urban settings. Focusing on the dynamics of local policy making in cities, this course reviews which policies are more or less constructive and how best to address them. Requirements: midterm, final, and papers. No prerequisites.
