LING 204 Second Language Acquisition and Foreign Language Teaching (Not offered 1997-98)

This course will investigate various theories of language acquisition and their implications and applications for the teaching of foreign languages. We will survey several methodologies which are practiced today. The role of the language lab and the computer in foreign language teaching will be examined. The course will include demonstrations in various languages by the instructor, invited guests, and possibly, class members. Lecture-discussion course. Requirements: a midterm, very active class participation, in-class presentation(s), and written reports of visits to foreign language classes; no final. No prerequisites. Previous experience as a learner or teacher of a foreign language is desirable.
