ENGL 304 Dante (Same as Literary Studies 317) (Not offered 1997-98; to be offered 1998-99)

A study of Dante's works emphasizing The Divine Comedy. Selected readings from Virgil, Augustine, and Macrobius will serve as an introduction to relevant issues in medieval cosmology and hermeneutics. All readings in translation.
Requirements: several short papers, two exams, and a 10-page final paper.
Prerequisite: English 101. (Pre-1800)
