ENGL 216(S) Introduction to the Novel
A course on the development of the novel as a literary form, taught by a mixture of formal lecture and discussion. Among the novels to be read are: Defoe's Robinson Crusoe, Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Bront#'s Jane Eyre, Dickens' Great Expectations, Forster's Howards End, Nabokov's Lolita, and Morrison's Song of Solomon. Requirements: two short papers, quizzes, midterm and final exams. Prerequisite: English 101. Enrollment limited to 40.
