ARTS 300T Narrative Spaces
Through the act of painting and drawing, this studio course will focus on translating, interpreting, recontextualizing and collaborating with the written word to create a visual narrative that speaks to collective and singular experiences. We will be working with various examples of written narrative such as short stories, poems and found text as points of entry into the process, but we will also be looking intently at visual examples of narrative to establish a point of reference and as examples of technique, content and items of discussion. This is a class where the development of studio skills is highlighted and evaluation based on the visual strength of the work and intellectual clarity of ideas. Lab fee $200.
Format: tutorial/studio work-painting, drawing, printmaking. Course requirements: evaluation will be made on the strength of the work, completion of assignments, attendance, and strong participation in critiques.
Prerequisites: ArtS 100, ArtS 241. Enrollment limit: 10 (expected: 10). Preference given to Art majors.
