MATH 405(S) Geometric Ordinary Differential Equations (Q)

Here we will embark on a theoretical study of ordinary differential equations with a geometric flavor. Our investigations will include the existence and uniqueness of solutions, linear equations, qualitative methods for non-linear equations including Lyapunov functions, Poincare-Bendixson, and linearization. We will also explore selected special topics leading to a study of Poincare's discovery of chaotic behavior in celestial mechanics; and thus consider the study of dynamical systems.
