This course consists of three broad areas of study. First, we will explore the role
of money and its interaction with other economic variables. Second, we will
study the role of the central bank and the conduct of monetary policy. Although
special attention will be given to the organization and the operation of the
Federal Reserve System, other monetary policy regimes will also be considered.
Finally, we will look at the role of financial intermediaries (especially banks) in
the flow of funds between savers and investors.
Format: lecture. Requirements: problem sets, paper, midterm, and a final exam.
