HIST 385(F) (formerly 332) Contemporary Issues in Recent Asian-American History, 1965-Present*

Since 1965, the Asian-American community has increased in number and diversity. This course will examine the Asian diaspora since 1965 in light of events in both Asia and the United States and how Asians have come to populate the American landscape in terms of immigration and adjustment patterns, Asian-American identity and politics, and the Asian presence in American popular culture. Readings will include oral histories, novels, and contemporary historical and sociological studies of the Asian-American experience. Format: discussion. Evaluation will be based on class participation, two short papers (5-7 pages) and a personal or family immigration history (15 pages). Enrollment limit: 30 (expected: 15). Open to all. Group A
