This course focuses on grammar, elementary composition, practice in conversation, and reading of easy modern prose. It is conducted by the intensive oral method.

Format: the class meets five hours a week. In addition, as part of their preparation, students are required to spend two half-hour periods every week in the Language Laboratory. Evaluation will be based on participation, compositions, quizzes, and a final exam. For students who have studied less than two years of Spanish in secondary school. Students registered for 101-102 are required to attend and pass the sustaining program during the winter study period. Credit granted only if both semesters are taken. Enrollment limit: 20.
