As the capstone seminar, this course is required of all senior majors, and open to others only if space is available, and only with permission of the instructor. For 2000-2001, the topic of the seminar is "Time and Time Consciousness." The semester will be divided roughly into thirds, so that we may consider how problems of time have been addressed in the history of philosophy (Aristotle through Kant), in analytic philosophy, and in contemporary continental philosophy. Students will take active roles in leading discussions. Requirements: class reports and a substantial research project. Prerequisite: senior major status or permission of instructor.
