ENGL 202(F) Modern Drama (Same as Theatre 312)

An introduction to some of the major plays of the late-nineteenth and twentieth centuries: such works as Ibsen's The Wild Duck and Hedda Gabler; Chekhov's Three Sisters; Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest; Shaw's Heartbreak House; Pirandello's Six Characters in Search of an Author; O'Neill's A Long Day's Journey Into Night; Brecht's Mother Courage; Beckett's Waiting for Godot; and Stoppard's Arcadia. The course will be taught by a combination of lecture and discussion. Requirements: two 4- to 5-page papers, a scheduled final exam, and regular, active participation in class discussion.
