The Dean of the College maintains a list of tutors who can help students struggling with material in specific classes. Political science classes fall into four subfields: political theory, American politics, comparative politics, and international relations. Our department appoints two seniors in each subfield to serve as tutors for courses in their area. The following senior majors have been appointed to serve as tutors for the 2005-2006 academic year.
Political Theory: Melody Marchman, Zachary Orjuela
Political theory classes include the introduction, PSCI 203, as well as those numbered in
the 230s, 330s, and 430s. In addition, PSCI 206 draws a fair amount on political theory. This
year, political theory classes are taught by Professors Clarke (in Philosophy), Deveaux, Groff,
Hayes, and Reinhardt.
American Politics: Allison Farley, Ryan McNeely
American politics classes include the introductory course, 201, as well as those numbered in the
210s, 310s, and 410s. This academic year, classes in American politics are offered by Professors
Benjamin (in Environmental Studies), James (African-American Studies), Hayes, Johnson, Mellow,
Thomas, and Willingham.
Comparative Politics: Nikhar Gaikwad, Silvia Paz-Frydman
Comparative politics classes include PSCI 204, the introduction to the subfield, as well as classes
numbered in the 240s and 250s, 340s and 350s, and 440s. Faculty teaching in this subfield this year
include Professors Bong, Crane, Mahon, and Swamy.
International Relations: Dianne Pfundstein, Alexis Saba
International relations classes start with the introductory PSCI 202, and include courses numbered
in the 220s and 260s, 320s and 360s, and 420s. This year, international relations classes are offered
by Professors Bong, Cook, Crane, Lynch, Mahon, and McAllister.
All arrangements to receive tutoring must go through the Dean of the College’s office, as tutors are formally appointed and are employed by the Dean’s office. If a student needs tutoring that somehow does not fall into one of these areas, the political science department will find a tutor to fill that need at that time.
