"Nanotubes and the Electronics of Small Scale Structures."

What happens to physics when we shrink stuff down? Can we measure the

transition from atomic to macroscopic behavior in materials? In this

talk, I will approach these questions by discussing transport experiments

on small, mesoscopic structures that exhibit both quantum mechanical and

bulk properties. The focus will be on one-dimensional and zero-dimensional

structures, particularly carbon nanotubes and quantum dots. I will also

discuss recent progress in making quantum dots out of carbon nanotubes.

The talk will be general, with introductions to topics such as

nanotechnology, carbon nanotube devices, and quantum computers.
