Program
Information
Neuroscience is a rapidly growing interdisciplinary field
concerned with understanding the relationship between brain, mind, and
behavior. The neuroscience program at Williams integrates the work of
biologists, chemists, psychologists, computer scientists, and philosophers
in an attempt to understand the workings of the brain.
Through both classroom work and direct involvement in faculty research
programs, neuroscience students at Williams have the opportunity to explore
issues that are both on the cutting edge of science and that have the
potential to affect our lives. The neuroscience program emphasizes close
faculty-student relationships. Students have the opportunity to participate
in small seminars and courses, many of which have associated laboratories.
Neuroscience students also have the opportunity to become collaborators
in faculty research programs. Students in these settings are considered
junior colleagues and often have the opportunity to design and carry out
their own research and to share in the publication of these experiments.
This combination of challenging classroom instruction and individual research
opportunities prepares the neuroscience student for further education
and careers in neuroscience and allied fields.
