MACLA

MACLA is a contemporary arts space founded in 1989 in San Jose, California. It seeks to bring together traditional audiences with emerging Latino artists. With a mix of patrons, audiences, and participants that is 70% Latino and 30% non-Latino, MACLA provides a cultural space for cross-pollination. In addition to its artistic mission, MACLA collaborates with other Latino mainstream institutions to develop the well being of the Latino community. MACLA is currently part of the “Shifting Sands – Art, Culture and Neighborhood Change” initiative funded by the Ford Foundation and managed by Partners for Livable Communities. As part of this initiative, MACLA is working with community partners toward the creation of a Business District on William Street.
