1997-1998: Roman Sazonov
How Roman Sazonov
was a TA in Williams College
My experience
in Williams College as a Teaching Associate for the Russian language
is probably among the best ones in my life. On one hand, coming
to the United States was very exciting and new for me; while on
the other, being a Faculty member provided for good life during
the year.
I have to say that working with the Professors and students of
the Russian department and whole Center for Foreign Languages
and Cultures was extremely pleasant and fun. Besides regular classes,
we were able to shoot a movie, "Operation Jawbreaker",
based on the Russian-American Cold War stereotypes; stage a play,
"Ludi i koshka" - an adaptation of one of M. Zoschenko's
short stories and a satire on the post-revolutionary life in communal
apartments; and act out A. Pushkin's "Mozart and Salieri"
in poetry.
I got to know many people from all around the world, took some
great classes, and was able to pursue the study of Classical Civilizations
in Williams.
It is definitely a wonderful opportunity, and whoever has it will
have a chance to learn more about the world, others and oneself.
Best
of luck!
Roman
