Students

This page contains links to information of particular interest to students. Your life in the Biology Department can involve more than just the courses you take.

Subcategories

Advising: Faculty are available to offer advise on courses to take, study abroad, research opportunities, post-graduate career plans, etc. Senior peer advising can also help you in your curricular decisions.

BMAC: the Biology Majors Advisory Committee. This group of dedicated students participates in many aspects of Biology Department life. They plan social events, advise the Faculty on hiring, critique and suggest curricular changes, etc. They provide a forum for students to discuss Biology-Department-issues important to them. The heads of BMAC for 2004-5 are Katie Davisson '06 Maggie Gilmore '05, and Ross Smith '05. Visit the BMAC webpage for more info.

TAing: Students have the opportunity to assist in teaching labs in BIOL 101, 102, 202, 203, 205, and several upper-level courses. Each year students apply for TA positions for one or both semesters, indicating their course preferences. Click here to access the application form.

Summer Jobs: The Department maintains a list of summer research jobs we know about (but a search of the internet may uncover some more). Every summer 30-50 Williams students are hired to do research in Biology faculty labs or at their field research sites. Click here for the application form.

Jobs after graduation: The Biology Department sometimes gets mailings about positions requiring a Bachelor's degree in Biology. These are sometimes posted on the bulletin boards on the 2nd floor of TBL or on the bulletin board as you enter Bronfman via the bridge from TBL. The OCC website also provides career advice on what to do with a Biology major. The OCC also maintains files in the OCC office in Stetson with information on jobs available and what types of jobs our majors have gone on to after graduation.
