Many students spend their summer doing research, either at Williams College or elsewhere. During summer 2007, there were approximately 60 students working with Williams Biology faculty either here on campus, or at Woods Hole Marine Biological lab (with Professor Savage), or at Isle Royale (with Professors Edwards and Smith). This site has descriptions of various student activities during the summer of 2005 [available only to the Williams community].

Here's a link to the application form for doing summer research at Williams. Interested students should submit this application by February 18^th. Faculty who will be hiring summer research assistants are: Art, Banta, Edwards, Hutson, Lynch, Morales, and Ting. Here's a link to descriptions of their research.

• Here's a link to information on the summer research opportunity at the Whitehead Institute for Williams College sophomores. Application deadline is February 18^th.
• Each year, the the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) grants funds for Student Research and Broadening Access to Science at Williams. This includes:
  12 Williams students at Williams
  4 MCLA, Bennett College, and/or UT-San Antonio students at Williams
  6 at Marine Biological Laoratories in Woods, Hole, MA [contact Professor Savage for details]
  2 Williams students at labs of HHMI international investigators
  Funds cover student stipends, travel to and from research site, off-site living expenses, modest supply funds for faculty sponsors, and MBL faculty salary. Visit the HHMI site, or contact Professor Raymond if interested.

Several students applied for research positions elsewhere for Summer 2007 and worked in labs or at field sites in Tasmania, at National Institutes of Health, at the Whitehead Institute at MIT... If you're interested in opportunities to do research at other institutions:
